Lanre, Rofiat tops June Lagos State Squash League ranking

Kwara squash players honour Deacon Atoyebi



One of the pillars of the development of squash in Kwara state, Deacon Mike Atoyebi will be honoured on his birthday by Kwara squash players, with a competition which begins today, at the Squash Court of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.

The final of the competition comes up on Wednesday, at the same venue.

According to Coaches Alarape Atanda and Isiaka Magaji, the competition, which is for both male and female players, was introduced to show appreciation to Deacon Atoyebi, for his contributions to the development of the game in Kwara and Nigeria.

Deacon Atoyebi is the sponsor of the annual Atomike squash tournament in Kwara state.

The trophy for the competition was donated by Coach Bola Magaji.

Meanwhile, Kwara trained Lagos based player, Abdulrahman Lanre and Rofiat Abdulazeez of Kwara state have been ranked Number 1, in both the male and female ranking respectively, for the month of June.

Lanre leads 24 others in the ranking released by the Nigeria Squash Federation over the weekend. Abel Shedrack, also of Lagos was ranked Number 2 in the male category, with Kwara’s Gabriel Olufunmilayo and Ismail Abubakar coming third and fourth.



In the female category, Ebifemi Taiwo was ranked Number 2, while Busayo Olatunji (Lagos) and Isaac Blessing (Kwara) were ranked third and fourth.
