Fordham 8, Vassar
The Brewers started the season against Fordham, not being able to get much going against the Rams in falling 8-1. VC did have some solid performances, highlighted by its lone win by Millnd Joshi at No. 7. Taking on Joe Hughes, Joshi had no problems in earning an 11-1, 11-1 and 11-0 victory.
Another close match up was at No. 2, as Mathieu Rizk dropped a heartbreaker to John Lennon in five games. Rizk picked up the opening set 11-8, but Lennon responded by capturing the second set 11-6. Rizk rallied back with an 11-9 victory in the third, but Lennon was able to push through for wins in the fourth and fifth games, 11-8 and 11-2.
Vassar 7, Lafayette 2
The nightcap saw the Brewers play better throughout the lineup, winning the top five flights in rolling to the easy victory. At No. 1, sophomore Viraj Nadkarni won the first two game easily 11-3 and 11-2, shaking off a third game loss to pick up the victory with a 11-5 decision in the fourth.
Rizk cruised to his first collegiate win at No. 2 over William Gitlin, earning an 11-1, 11-4 and 11-3 win. Junior Caden Gruber, playing much higher in the lineup this season, posted a 3-1 win over Ryan Nadire at No. 3, as he overcame a 11-6 loss in the opening game to cruise to a four-game win with scores of 11-7, 11-1 and 11-6 over the final three games.
Senior Alex Riccio was a winner as well in four sets, picking up a 12-10, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-1 win, while junior captain Isaac Stuart earned a straight-set win at No. 5 with scores of 11-5, 11-4 and 11-7. Freshman Andrew Solander earned a default win at No. 9 for VC, while Drew Hardin also picked up his first win as a Brewer at No. 8 with scores of 11-7, 13-11 and 12-10 over Paige Beede.
