AGF Abdul-Razaq squash classic holds in Ilorin

To celebrate 90^th birthday of the legal luminary

players from 10 states will participate in an invitational Squash championship, tagged ‘AGF Abdul-Razaq Classic Championship’ scheduled to hold at the Squash Court of the Kwara State Stadium Complex between 8^th and 12^th of November, 2017.

The Squash championship is being packaged as a special 90^th birthday anniversary for Alhaji AGF Abdul-Razaq (SAN), OFR.
Senior players, both male and female, from Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Ogun, Lagos, Edo and the FCT will join their Kwara counterparts to jostle for honours in the three-day championship in honour of the Mutawali of Ilorin and Tafida of Zaria.
Ahead of the championship, the twin Kwara Squash Court is being put in shape by the Squash Association, with a promise to ensure a hitch-free and befitting competition.
The Acting Head of Coaching, Kwara State Sports Council, Coach Alarape Atanda, who is in the Organising Committee said that no stone will be left unturned, to give the celebrant a befitting birthday gift.
Prizes for the male event include N75, 000 as winner’s prize and N50, 000 for the second placed player.
The joint third place players will get N340, 000 each, 5^th to 8^th placed players will get N20, 000 each, while those ranked 9^th to 16^th after the competition will get N10, 000 each.
In the female category, the winner will get N50, 000; runner-up gets N35, 000, while placements from the joint third place finishers to the 16^th placed player will get same as the male players
Alhaji AGF Abdul-Razaq (SAN) is the first lawyer from Northern Nigeria, former Minister of State Transport in 1965; first Kwara State Commissioner of Finance in 1968, former Chairman Body of Benchers, and former President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
He was the Founder of the first privately owned secondary school in Kwara state, Ilorin College, Ilorin, presently Government High School, in 1968.
