COLL CLAIMS SECOND CHRISTCHURCH OPEN CROWN
Top seed and home favourite Paul Coll captured a second Squashways Christchurch Open title, beating England’s Angus Gillams in three games.
A packed crowd at the Burnside Squash Club saw Coll start slowly, making some uncharacteristic errors to allow Gillams to take an early 4-1 lead in the first game.
But the New Zealander improved his accuracy and was soon dominating the court to get back to 7-7 before forcing a couple of mistakes from the left-handed Englishman to take the opening game 11-7.
Coll swept the third-seeded Englishman aside in the second game with some attacking crosscourts and counterdrops to take it 11-2 before claiming the title - and a 10th PSA crown – with an 11-5 win in the third.
Result – Squashways Christchurch Open 2016
Paul Coll (NZL) (1) beat Angus Gillams (ENG) 3-0: 11-7, 11-2, 11-5 (33 mins)
