Egypt’s former World No.1 Ramy Ashour announced his immediate retirement from professional squash last night.
The Egyptian is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever players to grace a squash court, winning three World Championship titles, one British Open title and spent 21 months at World No.1 between 2010-2013 to name a few of his achievements.
Since making his PSA debut in 2004, Ashour has lifted a total of 40 PSA Tour titles, reaching 59 finals, while he won 358 of his 435 matches on the PSA Tour. Ashour’s final tournament win came at the Grasshopper Cup in March 2018 when he tore through the draw without dropping a single game to take the title.

One question I get asked a lot is ‘Who is the toughest opponent you’ve ever faced?’ & the answer I always give is @RamyAshour. Feel very privileged to have played as many times as we did. He helped raise the game of Squash to new levels. A true great of the game

So sad to see this, on his day probably the best player to ever play the game. Absolutely loved watching him play and absolutely loved sharing a court with him. He took the sport to the next level and we will all miss him. Legend....

One of the all time greats has announced his retirement. Possible/probable GOAT!
So many things to say about Ramy but I loved the spirit in which he played the game and the way he carried himself both on and off court.
Once in a generation player.

Sad to read, but what a privilege it was to grow up & watch @RamyAshour play. One of a kind squash talent & overall human being. The squash tour will surely miss you, but at least I can still see you in NYC #TheArtist

I remember first seeing Ramy at the U12 British Open where he won the final 27/0. Without a doubt the most skilful and creative squash player I have ever seen and a great guy too. Good luck in your future endeavours @RamyAshour , it’s been a pleasure to share the court with you

Sad to see @RamyAshour retire but what a legend of the game. Having first played him as an 11 year old and not even managing to get a point his genius was evident early on and every match we played was a real pleasure, even that one! A great character who will be sorely missed

One of the greats @RamyAshour has retired from squash. Plagued by injuries over last 5 years, it seemed a matter of time. But, my, what a player. He changed the face of squash, with movement like no other. Of many favourites, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEBiJguscMY …
