Egypt's Mohamed Elshorbagy began his defence of the El Gouna International Squash Open title with victory over Hong Kong's Max Lee.
The competition's second seed defeated Lee 13-11, 3-11, 11-4, 11-6 in front of his home crowd at CI Capital Glass Court Arena.
He will meet Mexico's Cesar Salazar next at the Professional Squash Association Platinum event.
Salazar won against Malaysia's Nafiizwan Adnan 13-11, 3-11, 11-9, 11-4 to progress.
The second seed in the women's tournament was also victorious.
Nour El Sherbini eased past Yathreb Adel 11-6, 11-9, 11-4, beating her compatriot in just 28 minutes.
"It was a tough first round but I am happy with the way I played," she said.
Her next opponent will be another Egyptian, Nadine Shahin.
Shahin caused an upset with 12-10, 4-11, 12-10, 11-3 victory over ninth seed Alison Waters of England.
The third round takes place tomorrow.
