SOARES SECURES FIRST PSA TOUR TITLE
Rui Soares claimed his first title on the PSA Tour, as he became the 2019 Hampshire Open Champion.
The Portuguese player beat Robert Downer in a scintillating five-game final that lasted over 100 minutes.
The World No.99, was the top seed for the PSA Challenger 5 event in Eastleigh, England.
The Englishman actually led twice in the final, at both 1-0 and 2-1, but Soares recovered from both deficits to taker the crown.
He had cruised through the first two rounds of the tournament, managing to do so without dropping a game en route to the semi finals.
To reach the final, Soares had to also overcome Amaad Fareed in the semis. He did so in four to set up the clash with Downer in the final.
After securing the first PSA title of his career, the World No.99 will not play tournament squash until the start of April, when he takes part in the CAS International Squash Championship in Pakistan.

[1] Rui Soares (POR) bt [7] Robert Downer (ENG) 3-2: 9-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8 (103m)
