Finitsis wins Port Moresby squash title






QUEENSLANDER Steven Finitsis beat PNG national squash representative Madako Suari Jr 3-0 to claim the Port Moresby Open title last Sunday.
Cairns-based Finitsis, who formerly had a world ranking of No.45, beat Suari 3-0.
In the women’s open final, Courtney Mather beat younger sister Kurstyn 3-0. The Mather sisters are based in Cairns, Queensland.
Christopher Whitchurch beat Tyrone Pople 3-0 in the boys U18 division while Kurstyn Mather beat Amity Alarcos 3-0 in the U18 girls final.
In the tennis competition, Robin Morove beat Lavu Ivuyo in men’s open final while Bianca Terra beat Dulcie Kauibo in the women’s final.
The Port Moresby Squash and Tennis Open started last Friday with more than 150 competitors from host city Port Moresby, Lae and Cairns (Queensland) involved at the Port Moresby Racquets Club at Bavaroko.
Club squash director Merlyn Alarcos said the tournament ended on Sunday with finalists sharing in the K7000 prize pool.
Alarcos thanked the players, club members and their families for their part in making the open a success.
