Team Fiji squash section manager Dinesh Narayan said they relish the
opportunity of going toe-to-toe against the world’s top players during
the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.“We believe that by being fit as we can be, will be enough to compete against some of the best in the world,” Narayan said.
He said they would be using the Games as a platform in gauging themselves and where they stand compared to some of the world’s top squash players.
“Obviously we want to see how we fare against these top athletes but it will also be a valuable experience for us.”
Narayan said this was a major stepping stone for them in their bid of being competitive on the world stage.
“We have to be very realistic here because all our players are matched against these world ranked players. But we will give our best for Fiji, we have prepared as well as we can be and we will try our best to win medals for Fiji.”
This is also the biggest contingent of squash players for the Commonwealth Games which comprises of four athletes and two officials.
“We hope this will lift the profile of the sport in Fiji and to give players the exposure in playing at the highest level possible,” Narayan added.
