Ivan Yuen (pic) kept up his resurgence after making the semi-finals of the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit (SSJM) No. 6.
The
national No. 3 who took a three-month break last November, proved that
he’s slowly getting back to his best after beating compatriot Mohd
Addeen Idrakie 11-5, 11-8, 11-9 in the quarter-finals at the National
Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
The world No. 59 started strongly and relied on his experience to see off a late challenge by Addeen as he made his first semi-final appearance on the Professional Squash Association Tour since October.
Ivan, 27, whose last semi-final appearance was a defeat to national No. 2 Ng Eain Yow in the Malaysian Open, takes on Kuwait’s Abdullah Al Muzayen next.
Abdullah, who came through the qualifiers, was just too good for Pakistan’s Tayyab Aslam as he won 11-3, 8-11, 12-10, 11-6.
“It’s good to finally be back on the winning track after my long break,” said Ivan.
“I don’t feel any pain or difficulties in breathing now so that’s a good sign for me.”
Ivan is the sole Malaysian left in the competition after Sanjay Singh Chal bowed out against sixth seed Wong Chi Him of Hong Kong.
The world No. 124, who had beaten third seed Ramit Tandon of India in the first round, couldn’t reproduce that form as he went down 11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 3-11.
In the women’s event, Latvia’s Ineta Mackevica was the surprise package after taking out fifth seed Tamika Saxby of Australia 11-9, 10-12 11-7, 11-5 to storm into the semi-finals.
