NSF to design grassroots development programme
Training and retraining of coaches and officiating officials has been described as a key factor, and pre-requisite towards the development of squash, especially at the grassroots.
The President of the Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF), Boye Oyerinde stated this yesterday while declaring open a 2-day National Coaching Clinic for coaches, at the Squash Court of the Kwara State Stadium
Complex, Ilorin.
According to him, the training for coaches and the officiating
officials will be a continuous exercise, adding that plans are on to bring in foreign facilitators for training and the development of programme for the federation.
He said that more attention is being focused on grassroots
development, as the federation is working with schools, and also taking into account the available squash facilities in the country to train players, whom he said have been categorized into U-13, U-16,
U-19 and the senior class, both male and female.
Oyerinde charged the coaches to work seriously on the discovery and opgrooming of players, and to design progressive programme that would encourage sponsors and support from Veterans.
One of the Resource Persons, Prof Tayo Talabi of the University of Ilorin, who is also a member of the Technical Committee of the NSF
said that the clinic is significant, to make coaches have proper
understanding of the basic things, especially as coaching methodology keeps changing.
He joined Dr. Babatunde Adebayo and Coach Bola Magaji to take the
coaches on psychology of training, selection and coaching and essential playing tactics and ethics, both in theory and practical terms.
Coaches all over Nigeria attended the clinic which ends today.
