World No.71 Karim El Hammamy is the winner of the prestigious Lagos International Classic after he defeated compatriot, world No 287 in a thrilling best of five-game contest inside Teslim Balogun Stadium Indoor Sport Hall to bring an end to this year's edition of the PSA M15 tournament.
Karim, whose first time in Nigeria, has been in stunning form all through the game, appearing in this PSA M15 World Tour, meeting his fellow Egyptian Hosni in the finals.
A captivating contest saw some incredible rallies enrapture a sell-out crowd, with Karim through tooth and nail swift ahead to a 2-0 lead, only to see a gutsy fight back from Hosni send the match into an injury time.
But a determined Karim ran away with things in the third game as he rattled off a succession of points to complete a 3-0 victory to draw a captivating 38-minute battle to a close.
Karim, who didn't lost any of his game has now won an incredible PSA M15 World Tour titles which took place in Lagos Nigeria.
“This is one of the best ever match we’ve played against each other and what a venue to play that kind of battle in,” said Karim, who will take home nearly $15,000 in prize money, which is a record amount for this tournament.
Karim is a good player, he has been amazing all through the tourney. He’s an unbelievable fighter and all credit to him, he played really well.”
