Egypt’s World No.3 Ali Farag has joined compatriot Mohamed ElShorbagy in securing his place at the season-ending PSA World Series Finals.
Farag secured his spot at the event after reaching the semi-finals of last week’s J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions which sees him currently in second place with 230 points after four events on the World Series Standings.
Only the top eight players on the PSA World Series Standings will claim a coveted spot at June’s PSA World Series Finals with points for the World Series Standings on offer at all PSA World Series tournaments throughout the 2017/18 season.
Also on the men’s standings, Germany’s Simon Rösner moves up to third place – 50 points behind second place Farag - after claiming his first World Series title at the recent Tournament of Champions with runner-up Tarek Momen sitting in fourth place with 170 points.
Other movements on the men’s standings sees France’s World No.1 Gregory Gaultier move up to fifth place, while Marwan ElShorbagy, Nick Matthew and Karim Abdel Gawad complete the men’s current top eight after four events.
Meanwhile on the women’s standings after four events, Nour El Tayeb has taken a huge step in securing her place at the season-ending tournament after reaching the Tournament of Champions final in New York last week.
The Egyptian currently sits in joint second place on the standings with compatriot Raneem El Welily on 220 points as they complete an Egyptian top three alongside Nour El Sherbini, who confirmed her place at the tournament last week.
World No.1 El Sherbini just needed one win at the recent Tournament of Champions to secure her place at the event after winning three World Series titles so far this season, including two in January – the Saudi PSA Women’s Squash Masters and Tournament of Champions.
England’s Laura Massaro has climbed up to fourth place - with 100 points separating her and joint-second place El Tayeb and El Welily - after she reached the semi-finals in New York. Egypt’s Nouran Gohar, France’s Camille Serme, New Zealand’s Joelle King and Malaysian icon Nicol David complete the current top eight after four events.
The battle for crucial points on the PSA World Series Standings continues next month at the Windy City Open presented by the Walter Family & EquiTrust Life Insurance Company as the stars of the PSA World Tour do battle in Chicago.
Glass court action will be shown live on SQUASHTV (Rest of the World) and Eurosport Player (Europe only), while the semi-finals and finals will be broadcast live on BT Sport, beIN Sports, Fox Sports Australia and Astro.
