For some it is still a little hard to believe that after more than a decade at the club level, these senior's dream of playing at the highest level is coming true.
"Just immediate excitement because that was kind of a dream of mine," Senior Mason Blake said, "I always wanted to play college squash at a really high level."
"To go from what it was when we first started to starting our first round of matches this weekend, I think it's been really fun to watch the whole team get excited about it," Senior Isabel Stack said.
Just three years ago, it didn't take much to look around and know this program was destined for something more.
"They built this new facility and you could kind of sense that it was coming, but I was looking at a bunch of other schools that had varsity teams already and to be honest I think UVA was just the best fit all around," Blake said.
"The caliber of player, even our first year is so much higher," Novick said, "We we're competing with some even varsity teams our and last year we finished 18th in the country."
There is also a little history attached with UVA becoming the first Power Five school with a men's team and the second with a women's after Stanford. Just another reason for the Hoos' to prove themselves.
"I'm really proud of how far we've come in such a short time, but we also know that all eyes are on us because we just went varsity and people really want to see what we're going to do this season," Senior Carey Danforth said.
"We're meant to be here and we're not just a flash, we're here to stay and kind of keep moving up the ranks," Novick said.
Both the men's and women's teams start their season Saturday at Dickinson before traveling to Franklin & Marshall on Sunday.
