A film charting the journey of Lancashire born squash Laura Massaro to World No.1 debuted in Manchester last night.
England Squash, the national governing body held a screening of its new
film 'Warrior: Laura Massaro’s Journey to World No.1' to youngsters at
UKFast, Birley Campus.
Guests included English Under 11 champion Charlie McCrone and Girls Under 13 British Junior Champion Asia Harris.
Released
ahead of the forthcoming AJ Bell PSA World Championships in December,
the film shows Massaro's rise to the top of world rankings in January
2016.
Featuring talking heads, archive footage and vintage
photos, she reflects candidly on her highlights on the PSAWorld Tour
and the turning points that led to her becoming World No.1.
Keir Worth, England Squash CEO said, “We’re immensely proud to bring Laura’s story to screen.
To become a World Champion and World No.1 are incredible achievements
and this short film is a reminder that with the right attitude and
approach you can achieve your aspirations. We hope it inspires future
generations.”
Massaro,
who lives in Chorley and devotes a lot of her time to mentoring
England’s youngsters at the National Squash Centre in Sport City said,
“Personally the film is brilliant for me to keep and be proud to look
back on my achievements.
I hope it helps and inspires the up and
coming players to realise they can achieve whatever they set out to do
and hopefully that might lead to them being the best in the world.”
Ten-year-old Charlie McCrone said, “Laura’s film was really good. It
taught me to stay focused and determined. I learned not to worry about
the end of the match but just think about how you’ve trained.”
Twelve-year-old Asia Harris said, “The film was amazing and has given me some great ideas on what to improve on.”
The film is currently available to England Squash members and will be given a general release early in 2018.
