SQUASH LESSONS IN NYC: squash is a creative physical AND mental activity that is great fun and great exercise (45-60 minutes, air-conditioned)
Personalized instruction (private or shared) that is tailored for Novices, Beginners and Intermediate players. (Flexible locations: your venue or mine) -- I AM INSURED WITH GREAT REFERENCES.
Whether you just want to learn the basics and have fun playing squash or you want to excel and prepare for more competitive play, I can help you learn, improve and enjoy playing squash. I CAN ALSO PROVIDE ALL NECESSARY EQUIPMENT: squash racquets and balls, protective eyewear, training equipment.
Learn the rules, PAR scoring, fundamentals of forehand and backhand stroke production, patterns of court movement, game strategies, and 'lets' and 'strokes'. For more experienced players, I can help improve your shotmaking (serves, service returns, boasts, volleys, drops), footwork and court movement, mental discipline and score management, game tactics, spatial acuity (deception/anticipation/recognition) as well as integrating practice drills and stretching and centering routines.
Everyone benefits from greater focus, stamina and aerobic efficiency, enhanced agility and coordination; all while generating endorphins and releasing stress/tension in an engaging, social environment. See why so many players -- of all ages and skill levels -- are absolutely ADDICTED to squash! It's easy-to-grasp and unlike tennis, is fun and satisfying even for novices just picking up a racquet. Practicing squash alone is also hypnotic and rewarding: hone your strokes and improve your racquet skills anytime, indoors in air-conditioned comfort -- no hot sun and chasing errant balls! The 3-dimensional nature of squash with all its possible angles is as stimulating as it is challenging. Although you don't have to run large distances, you must think and move with agility in order to cover every square inch of the court! Squash's simple, zen-like nature -- hitting a little black ball in an all-white room -- helps foster heightened concentration and positive brain-mapping, resulting in true MINDFULNESS: maximum attention, staying fully in the moment.
Mentally, squash is often referred to as "physical chess" or "chess in 3 dimensions." Rather than immediately going for quick, showy kill shots (instant gratification), the emphasis is on patience and "constructing an attack," as in chess. Learning to maintain and develop rallies, recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent and then applying pressure in time or space, all while effectively managing game scores, leads to a disciplined, flexible, high-percentage style of play.
Squash was rated the #1 healthiest sport in the world by Forbes magazine: better for cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility than other activities such as swimming, rowing, running, boxing and cycling. Indoors and all-weather, it's the perfect urban game: high-intensity, minimal time commitment (60 minutes or less) and LOADS OF HEALTHY, STRENGTHENING FUN.
