New Zealand's Paul Coll has been beaten in the first round of the US$165,000 ($NZ240,158) Qatar Classic World Series tournament in Doha.
World No.10 Coll was beaten by sixth-ranked Marwan El Shorbagy of Egypt in a 13-11 9-11 5-11 6-11 contest which lasted nearly an hour.
Coll has been in a strong run of form and this year became the first New Zealander to break into the top 10 in 22 years.
The next tournament for the Greymouth 25-year-old will be the World Series Hong Kong Open in just over two weeks.
Fellow Kiwi Joelle King will also play in the women's draw at the same event.
