NUGA Games: KWASU, UNIPORT Win Gold In Squash
Makurdi – Kwara State University (KWASU) and University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) on Tuesday picked gold medals in the squash event at the ongoing Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) games at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the medals were all in the singles event, which was staged at the Vaatia College in the outskirts of Makurdi.
NAN also reports that the competition, which commenced at the quarter finals stage, had 13 universities participating.
Temiloluwa Adegoke of KWASU defeated Abdulmaleek Balogun University of Ilorin in a 3-1 set (11-13, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8) to clinch the gold medal in the male category.
Adegoke had earlier defeated Anietie Udoada of Oyo State University 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 straight win in the semi finals to progress to the finals of the male singles.
He also defeated Isaac Joseph of Adamawa State University (ADSU) 11-2,11-5 to qualify for the semi finals.
In the female singles final, Vivian chukwuedo of University of Port Harcourt defeated Blessing Isaac 3-1 (14-12, 13-11, 12-14, 12-10) to win a female gold medal.
Chukwuedo had earlier defeated Ebong Sylvanus of Oyo State University in three straight sets to qualify for the finals.
She also defeated Margret Luka of Federal University of Technology Minna 11-2, 11-1 to reach the semi finals.
