Darren eyeing q-final spot and place in SEA Games squad

PETALING JAYA: Youngster Darren Rahul Pragasam (pic) is out to prove his worth on two fronts.

The 17-year-old from Seremban hopes to make a breakthrough on the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Tour when he competes in the Malaysian Tour Squash Circuit (SSJM) No. 2 at the Royal Lake Club in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

Then, the national Under-19 champion aims to make the national team for the Aug 19-30 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

“My performance has improved this year. I’m more matured now and my game is quite stable,” said Darren.

“I’ve not played much in professional tournaments but I hope to reach the quarter-finals this week for the first time. It won’t be easy because I will start from the qualifying rounds. But I believe it is a good chance to show what I can do since I’m hoping to make the SEA Games squad.

“To play in the SEA Games means a lot to all of us in the back-up squad. We’re all aiming to get one of the two remaining spots,” added Darren.

The world No. 380 stands a good chance based on merit.

At last week’s selection trials, Darren won all his four matches against Ong Sai Hung, Mohd Farez Izwan, Marcus Sim and Ryan Pasqual.

Darren and Sai Hung, who won three of his four matches, are likely to join Ng Eain Yow, Mohd Syafiq Kamal, Mohd Addeen Idrakie and Sanjay Singh Chal in the Games squad.
