The World’s Best Squash Players on the ‘Road to Dubai’!
The PSA Dubai World Series Finals is the season-ending climax to the both the men’s and women’s PSA World Series tours, featuring only the world’s best eight qualified players as they battle it out for the last title of the season. The PSA Dubai World Series Finals brings eight players together in two groups of four, with players playing a round-robin best-of-three series for a place in the knockout semi-finals and beyond.
After competing across seven tournaments and five countries on the PSA World Tour, the world’s top squash players will arrive in the UAE for the PSA Dubai World Series Finals 2017. With a state-of-the-art glass court in the most innovative spectator venue, this promises to be a thrilling five-day tournament with an elite line up of eight male and eight female players vying to win one of the sport’s most lucrative and prestigious prizes.
Players in the 2016 edition included Egyptian men’s World Number One, Mohamed ElShorbagy, French World Champion Gregory Gaultier, Malaysia’s eight-time female World Champion Nicol David and England champion Laura Massaro. The final saw two new champions crowned before a packed audience. For the women’s title, English champion and world number two Laura Massaro ended a superb week by defeating Egypt’s Raneem El Welily. Massaro played some of the best squash of her career to collect over US$40,000 in prize money, the single largest prize awarded to a female squash player. In the men’s final, Frenchman Gregory Gaultier overcame an earlier ankle injury to dominate the competition with a three games to one win against Australia’s Cameron Pilley.
With only four qualifying tournaments to go before the world’s best descend on Dubai Opera, 2017 promises to be an even more spectacular and thrilling contest!
