GREG RELISHING RETURN TO BELLEVUE

With just a few days to go to the start of the richest 16-player PSA event ever, we chat to the event’s top seed, Gregory Gaultier …
You’re coming into the event on a great run of form – five PSA events and the European Teams – what are your best and worst moments from those events ?
Well there are only good moments, although I suffered with bronchitis after Egypt and during the Euro Teams – I had to go to hospital to get a better treatment than what I had as it wasn’t getting any better so, I was on antibiotics for 7 days but I still managed to play for the team. Otherwise everything else went quite well !
Does being top seed and unbeaten for so long add extra pressure ?
No pressure at all, I just take pure pleasure in every match. I did all I wanted in my career so why I would add any pressure now. Everything I do and win is just a bonus now.
Bellevue is where you finally won the World Championships – so you’re looking forward to returning ?
Great memory there of course. I have been there now 4 or 5 times and I know the Khan family really well. I have close friends there and it’s a beautiful area of the world.
I’m sure the event will be a success as it was before, they have an amazing club and I’m sure the glasscourt venue will be great. They really look after the players well, they have also increased the prize money which is great for the players.
You face a qualifier in the first round – does not knowing your opponent until the day before affect your preparation ?
Not really, I will go watch some of the qualifying matches and I have seen or played everybody already so there’s not much surprise. It’s just every day is a different day and you just have to adapt depending on your conditions and your opponent’s conditions too.
It’s the end of the PSA season – just the World Series Finals after Bellevue – what are your plans for the Summer, and your aims for next season ?
I’ll take two good weeks of holidays with my family, then I’ll spend a month in France doing my summer preparation, then will go back to Prague for a few weeks to finish my preparation with a few matches, and then kick off the season once again from September.
The PMI Bellevue Classic in three words ?

Thanks Greg, and good luck …
